Intelligence: Inherited or Gained

I believe that intelligence is gained by each individual person. The ability to learn is something a person must do on their own. While some factors affecting this ability as, well other areas of brain functions, are genetic, this does not mean that knowledge learned throughout life is passed on to offspring. This isn’t to say that being in a well educated family does not affect a child’s intelligence. It is simply not something we inherit.
If you stop and think about it, was there ever a time where you could recall knowledge that you had never encountered before? Have you ever been able to answer a question that only people that worked in the same field as your grandfather would have know, yet you had no training in that field? If we truly inherited intelligence from our parents, then you would be able to do both of these things without a problem. Likewise, can you recall information that you have been exposed to at some point in your environment? This one you can probably answer with a yes.
Anatomically speaking, it is impossible to transfer knowledge through genes. It would much the same as being able to pass on muscle size or running efficiency to offspring. For example, if traits such as this could be inherited, then the child of a bodybuilder would have muscles proportional to its parent when it is born. This has never been observed to be the case, so why would our bodies replicate memory cells in this way?
In conclusion, intelligence is not a genetic factor. We, as humans, learn about our environment as we age and with our own senses. We cannot pass on information to our children as it is anatomically impossible. If we could, then there should be a lot of geniuses in this world after how many generations of people we have been through. I can assure you that there are not.

9. “The difference between a dreamer and a visionary is that a dreamer has his eyes closed and a visionary has his eyes open”

People of the time period were mostly dreamers. Everyone wanted change, but not until this speech were there many people who became visionaries and leaders in order to acquire that change. Not only was this a problem then, but it is still plaguing us when it comes to modern issues. Very few people have the motivation to stand up and do something in today's society. Most people don't even realize the problems we are facing let alone have the courage to speak against them whether as a leader or a follower.

Bellringer 8/29/13

This man was an extremely talented speaker. His use of emphasis as well as word choice made his speech much more effective than it may have been otherwise. He and all of the audience were all very passionate about the subject at hand.
